Fresno Chamber of Commerce Event to Feature the new Chairman of High Speed Rail, Dan Richard

Fresno, CA (January 23, 2012) – On Friday, January 27^th, 2012, the Fresno Chamber of Commerce will host its 118^th Annual Membership & Installation Dinner at the New Exhibit Hall in Downtown Fresno. The theme of this year’s banquet is “A City on the Move” and will focus on transportation in California’s Central Valley.

A presentation on the theme of transportation would not be complete without discussion related to the possibility of High Speed Rail in the State. To date, Governor Brown has been highly supportive of the project and recently appointed transportation veteran, Dan Richard, as the project’s new Chairman. On Friday, Chairman Richard will share a preview of the vision he shares with Governor Brown with the business community and will discuss the importance of High Speed Rail for the Central Valley and California. Chairman Richard will be introduced by High Speed Rail Board Member and Fresno Business Leader, Tom Richards of the Penstar Group.

Currently, Mr. Richard is not only the Chairman of the High Speed Rail, but also Principal of Dan Richard Advisors. He received his Juris Doctor degree from McGeorge School of Law before he began his career at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). He followed this by becoming an advisor to the Chairman of the California Energy Commission and then serving Governor Brown during his first term as the Deputy Legal Affairs Secretary and Deputy Assistant for Science and Technology. From that point, he served various firms in the independent power industry as a vice president, a principal, a managing partner before becoming Senior Vice President of Public Policy and Governmental Relations at Pacific Gas and Electric Company. Richard was an elected member of the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District, serving twice as president of the Board and leading efforts to secure $4 billion in capital for various rehabilitation, expansion and retrofit projects.

Chamber CEO, Al Smith was particularly enthusiastic about the event’s key note speaker, “With the high visibility of the project and conversations currently surrounding it, Chairman Richard’s appearance will allow the business community to look at the details of High Speed Rail’s future.” Mr. Smith went on to say “I’d encourage anyone with something to say about this revolutionary project to join us for the evening and take part in the conversation.”

January Membership Mixer – Fairwinds Woodward Park

On Thursday, January 19^th the monthly Chamber Mixer was hosted by the beautiful retirement community of Fairwinds Woodward Park, located at 9525 North Fort Washington Road in Fresno. Each attendee was beyond impressed with the gorgeous facility as well as the bountiful and delicious food! It was a lovely night with great networking, fine wine, endless food and prizes!

Ribbon Cutting – Marinello School of Beauty

Marinello Schools of Beauty was founded by Giovanni Marinello which opened their first school in Los Angeles in 1905. In 1925 the establishment moved to New York, then in 1963 Marinello Schools were purchased by Scope Industries and the Headquarters were located in Los Angeles, since March 2004 Marinello Schools are under ownership of B and H Educational Inc., located in Beverly Hills Ca. and branches are operated in California, Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Connecticut. Marinello Schools of Beauty opened its doors to the Ambassadors for a Ribbon Cutting and Open House on January 12^th. A dozen Ambassadors joined the administration and twenty-five students at the school to celebrate with balloons, tours and a delicious lunch. The Fresno location, at 3117 W. Shaw Ave., opened its doors in the fall of 2011, as the 58^th location of a Beauty School that offers classes in cosmetology all across America. Students enroll in the college for a ten month intensive program that includes more than 1,600 hours of hands-on training in health & safety, hair dressing, esthetics, manicure & pedicure. During their initial months as students, the Freshmen learn the basics of hair, skin, nails, and etc. The facility includes classrooms and a styling salon where the students begin practicing their techniques on manikins. Following the freshman courses, students become Juniors. At that time they begin to work on the floor with real customers. The program is intense, requiring students to “work” in school 40 hours per week, Tuesday through Saturday. Students can receive certification as either a cosmetologist or an esthetician. Marinello has the best up to date tools and products to ensure the best training and with standards set very high for students it gives them the upper hand in being able to place the students in the work force. Also Marinello offers 7 $ 1,000.00 Scholarships to be awarded to High School graduates desiring to enter the Cosmetology profession, 6 $500.00 Scholarships will be awarded to current PBA/NCA members for continuing education in the field of cosmetology, plus 4 more Scholarships for each area of Nails, Esthetician, Cosmetology and Barbering.The Ambassadors were privileged to welcome this new school, as well as business, to the Fresno Community.
