In brief:

Local- The Fresno City Council will be weighing in on the Fancher Creek Parkway Act in the next few weeks, the Fresno Chamber is in strong support.

State- The Governor’s deadline to sign or veto legislation from the 2018 session has just expired.

Federal- A new trade deal has been reached with Mexico and Canada, rehauling NAFTA.

This Week in Government Affairs, September 24, 2018

Stay up to date with issues in Governmental Affairs on the city, county, state and federal level, as well as with on-goings happening in the Fresno Chamber of Commerce.

In Brief:

Local-

  • The city council will be revising it’s “Anti-Camping” Ordinance.
  • The city council will also be looking at establishing a Fancher Creek Parkway

State-

  • The Governor has until the end of the month to sign or veto legislation
  • The Governor signed SB-901, which will be extremely beneficial for wildfire relief and utility securitization statewide

Federal-

  • We are keeping a close eye on trade negotiations that have the ability to significantly affect our region.

In Brief:

Local

  • The Fresno Chamber will not be supporting Measure P.
  • The Fresno Chamber PAC has announced its endorsements of Tate Hill in Fresno City Council District 3, and Brian Whelan in Fresno City Council District 7.

State

  • The Fresno Chamber GAC at their meeting this Wednesday will be having a session recap.

Federal

  • We are monitoring trade negotiations, especially those that have the potential to impact our local ag economy.

In Brief:

Local:

  • City council will be meeting this Thursday and will vote to put the Parks initiative on the November General Election Ballot.

State:

  • The legislature returns for the final month of its legislative session today.

Federal:

  • We are continuing to monitor issues surrounding trade, tariffs, and immigration.

  • City council meets on August 9th, they will ratify the Fresno for Parks item on the November Ballot.
State:
  • The legislature is in recess and will come back for their final three weeks of the legislative year on August 6th.
Federal:
  • Congress may pass a budget, with the senate making major strides in the appropriations process.
