Chamber to hold Leadership Fresno recruitment mixer

The Fresno Chamber of Commerce will host a recruitment mixer for Leadership Fresno’s 41st class at 5 p.m. Thursday, March 26. The event is designed to introduce prospective participants to the long-running leadership development program and connect them with alumni and community leaders.

The mixer will take place at the Chamber of Commerce building, located at 2331 Fresno St. in downtown Fresno. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the program structure, application process, and the impact Leadership Fresno has had across the region.

Leadership Fresno was founded in 1984, when a group of local leaders, after observing similar programs in other major cities, decided it was time for Fresno to establish its own initiative. Since then, the program has focused on cultivating informed, engaged leaders who are prepared to address complex community challenges.

The program begins in August with an immersive two-day retreat, followed by daylong themed seminars each month (e.g., agriculture, criminal justice, media, education). Additionally, it is incumbent upon the class members to determine a project that will have an effect on the community in a significant way, an endeavor that each participant must be integrally involved in.

Past classes have worked to beautify bus stops, revitalize community gardens, and renovate the East Fresno Boys & Girls Club, while also tackling broader issues such as homelessness, domestic violence, and support for at-risk students.

Graduates of Leadership Fresno have gone on to hold leadership positions in a variety of organizations; they have been elected to political office, and many have found their participation in the program positively affected their professional lives.
