The California Highway Patrol is launching a statewide traffic enforcement effort ahead of Memorial Day weekend aimed at improving safety on roadways across the state.
The CHP said the Holiday Enforcement Period will begin Friday and continue through Monday.
According to the CHP, four people were killed in crashes across the Central Valley during last year’s Memorial Day weekend.
Officials urged drivers to help reduce crashes and fatalities by driving sober, avoiding distractions, following posted speed limits, and wearing seat belts.
The CHP also encouraged motorists to report suspected impaired drivers by safely pulling over and calling 911 with the vehicle description, license plate number, location, and direction of travel.
