A 10-year-old boy whose bicycle was stolen in a robbery last week received a new one from Fresno police after detectives recovered the original bike and made an arrest, authorities said.
The robbery occurred Friday, according to the Fresno Police Department. Detectives later located the stolen bicycle and arrested a suspect.
However, the bike was taken into evidence as part of the investigation, leaving the boy worried he would be without it for an extended period.
Moved by the child’s reaction, the lead detective arranged for a replacement, police said. With help from several police cadets, the detective selected and purchased a new bicycle for the boy.
The detective and cadets returned to the boy’s home to deliver the surprise, police said. The child was overjoyed, and his family expressed gratitude.
Police said the gesture reflects a commitment by detectives and cadets to show compassion beyond making arrests.
