A former Central Valley resident faces prison time for a $1.5 million fraud scheme in Tulare County.
U.S. Attorney Eric Grant announced that David Theron Ross, 64, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud on Monday.
The big picture: Ross was part of a two-person fraud scheme to defraud a homebuilding company of building materials.
- He conspired with Eduardo Jara, of Lindsay, to defraud the company.
- Jara was the assistant purchasing manager, while Ross was a forklift driver.
- Ross would pick up the materials to sell to local companies and share the proceeds with Jara. Jara would complete the required purchase orders, purchase receipts and purchase invoices to falsely show that the materials were obtained by the company.
- They continued the scheme by turning the paperwork into accounts payable and submitting it to the company’s headquarters for payment. The company then paid their supplier based on the fraudulently created documents.
What we’re watching: Ross is scheduled to be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Kirk Sherriff on Aug. 24.
- Jara pleaded guilty on April 20 and will be sentenced on July 27.
- Both Ross and Jara face up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
