A new poll pits Visalia Unified School District Trustee Randy Villegas as the top Democrat who will take on Rep. David Valadao (R–Hanford) come November.
The poll, which was commissioned by a top Villegas ally, shows the progressive Democrat leading Asm. Jasmeet Bains (D–Delano) by four points.
State of the race: The poll found Valadao in the lead at 44% support, well above Villegas and Bains.
- Villegas led the Democrats at 25%, followed by Bains at 21%.
- The poll also found that 10% of voters are unsure of who to support.
Zoom in: The poll was commissioned by the Working Families Party, which supports Villegas.
- The poll surveyed 517 likely primary voters in the 22nd Congressional District from May 1 through May 6.
- It has a sample size of ±4%.
What they’re saying: “People in the Central Valley are ready for change, and they’re not going to let DC insiders pick their candidate,” Villegas said. “I’m running for Congress because I know firsthand the struggles of working families in our district. Our community needs someone who will fight for them to lower costs, expand healthcare, and take on the extremism and corruption that plagues our politics. I’m staying focused on knocking on every door I can to keep making my case to voters.”
