Since the week after the 2024 election, speculative match-ups for the 2028 Fresno Mayoral race have taken off.
For the subject of many of them – Asm. Joaquin Arambula (D-Fresno) – his intentions became clear on Thursday.
Driving the news: Appearing at a candidate forum for the 3rd Fresno City Council district at Community Media Access Collaborative hosted by GV Wire, the five-term Democratic lawmaker was asked about the rumored bid to succeed Mayor Jerry Dyer.
- “Oh, I’ve answered this question a few times and I’ll just be straight about it,” Arambula said. “I am not planning to run in 2028. I fundamentally believe that you have to do a good job in your job before you’re seeking higher office. I do have young children. My daughters are 14, 13, and 10. I want to see them grow up a little bit and to be able to see them off to college before I’m considering any other positions.”
